‘City Reads in the Workplace’

Conversation. Inspiration. Motivation

‘Just wanted to say a big thank you for last night. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and we could have gone on and on… it was great to be in an atmosphere where you could just say what you thought which is not always the case within a small book group.’ Tina Stiles – DMH Stallard, Brighton, City Reads 2008

How can your business engage with City Reads in the workplace?

How can your staff come together to share, discuss and enjoy next year’s City Reads book all without leaving the building?

City Reads in the Workplace offers your company a bespoke workshop (for up to 20 staff) based on the current City Reads title. The workshops are delivered in the workplace by independent literature consultant David Kendall. David has inspired readers from Slough to Siberia and he will facilitate a special reading group discussion in your workplace. Sessions last approximately half a day.

The informality of the reading group format is an ideal forum in which to share ideas, stimulate debate, and acquire a greater empathy with colleagues.

Each reading group member will get a free copy of the City Reads book (at least a month in advance of the workshop date). The books will be delivered direct to your workplace – along with free readers’ guides (which are an excellent companion to the book, designed to make your read more enjoyable).

What are the benefits to your staff?
Staff at businesses such as Unilever (featured on BBC Radio 4’s, Today Programme), American Express and DMH Stallard have all taken part in David’s reading groups. Previous participants have reported that the workshops had:

  • Improved relationships with colleagues
  • Created an awareness of different opinions on a shared experience
  • Increased confidence
  • Created a positive atmosphere at work
  • Offered staff a new way of looking at a book
  • Given staff a good, fun experience
